There’s beauty in both simplicity,
and complexity.
There can be strength
in words spoken quietly.

Some of Azzedine Alaïa’s dresses took years to complete.

Through his dresses, he creates
a confidence to be worn.
A feeling that elevates
within the women they’ll adorn.

Each stitch and each fabric
has a direction to lay.
Each dress has a voice;
something to say.
Saying it with confidence and pride,
in an inimitable way.

I never knew him, nor met him
yet truly admired his art.
His dedication to detail.
His use of a dart.

A devotion to the dress.
To create through the night.
An insistent desire,
to get it just right.

Creating a reality
that some only dream.
Inspiring women
with every seam.

Such passionate creations,
worthy of prayer.
My sincere thanks to you,
Azzedine Alaïa.

“When I see beautiful clothes,
I want to keep them, preserve them…
Clothes, like architecture and art,
reflect an era.”
: Azzedine Alaïa
