NOTHING COMPARES 2 – STARFISH AND COFFEE

You can sing a song to 85,000 people and they’ll sing it back for 85,000 different reasons.”
: Dave Grohl

It felt like nostalgia
was a flavour of 2018.
The past is history.
The future a mystery.
Enjoy living the in-between.

I’m fascinated by the idea
of the different journeys
a creation makes.
The trails of thoughts.
The chain of ideas.
The path of notions it takes.

What was the inspiration.
How it answered a need.
Where was it conceived.
The moments involved.
Who played their parts.
Then the next journey starts.

Starfish and Coffee is one of my favourite Prince tracks.
It brings a smile to my face every time i hear it.
It’s full of joy.
Embraces difference.
Feels happy and free.

Susannah Melvoin, twin-sister of Wendy Melvoin (of Wendy and Lisa).
tells the fascinating story behind the songs lyrics;
all about a girl she went to school with.
A unique girl who ‘never had much interest outside of her own personal space.’
A girl who’s favourite number made her happy…
“every single day.”

When’s Sandy coming back?

Sandy Scipioni was Prince’s housekeeper.
She had to leave work suddenly one day to be with her family.
She was away for some days.
Susan Rogers, who was Prince’s sound engineer in the early eighties,
working on albums Purple Rain through to Sign ‘O’ The Times,
recently revealed her thoughts behind some of the
lyrics in ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’…
the song Prince wrote, and made famous by Sinead O’Connor.
Rogers says of the time;
“Sandy ran Prince’s life.
He kept asking; “When’s Sandy coming back?”
“It’s been seven hours and fifteen days…”

A video released earlier this year with footage from
pre-Paisley Park days here

“If you set your mind free, baby”
: Prince

Once an idea is created,
it takes off on different journeys.
With each and every person
with whom it comes to connect,
Unique meanings and moments.
And inspirations it effects.

Where they first heard it.
Who they were with.
How did they feel, and why?
Inspiring a motion
that improves with devotion.
To reach up and touch the sky.

A cover is only part of the story.
We all want to look our best.
And to feel our best even more so.
That’s an inside story.
Peel back the pages.

Heels worth wearing. Stories worth sharing.

Thank you for reading.

I appreciate how valuable your time is.

Have a beautiful night.
